Listen to the show here: The Brighton Beat with John Keenan
On my Radio Reverb show this week I interviewed Kyla Booth Lucking (yes, you try saying that on live radio) from Brighton Dome and Festival about a new creative space in the city.
The space has been made possible via grant from The Roddick Foundation and will be called Anita’s Room, in memory of Dame Anita Roddick, the activist, entrepreneur and founder of The Body Shop. Many people beyond the environs of Brighton and Hove will recognise that name. As well as opening the Body Shop in 1976, Dame Anita was involved in the founding of The Big Issue, which published some of the first pieces of journalism I ever wrote. I went on to write regular television, film, and art reviews for the magazine. Be careful what you wish for - writing a weekly television column drove me to the edge of sanity.
Alongside the interview, my show this week featured new material from a raft of Brighton based artists. Jump over the paywall to find out more.
